How to prepare for eclipse weekend:
Plan ahead! The eclipse will bring significant crowds. Get your groceries early, and make sure your family members know to do the same. Prescriptions should be filled early if possible. Fill up your gas tank in your vehicles and fill any spare gas cans you have in case the gas stations run out. Work from home if at all possible, and make sure your employers are aware of the logistical and traffic concerns for that weekend. Essential workers need to plan for parking and travel to and from work. Consider packing an overnight bag in case of traffic jams. Talk to your family and friends about their eclipse plans and get everyone on the same page.
Eclipse glasses and eye protection:
DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN WITHOUT ADEQUATE EYE PROTECTION. USE ONLY ISO APPROVED VIEWING GLASSES TO VIEW THE SUN. SOLAR VIEWING GLASSES ARE AVAILABLE AT THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS:

School Closures:
All Knox County Public Schools will be closed on April 8th, 2024. This closure is to mitigate traffic concerns and ensure student safety during the eclipse. Vincennes Catholic Schools will have a virtual school day. For more information concerning extra-curricular events, please contact your school. The Knox County Health Department will be distributing solar viewing glasses free of charge to every student enrolled in a Knox County School.

Knox County Emergency Management Agency uses a mass notification system, CodeRED, for informing citizens of emergencies and important information for community preparedness, when necessary.
